Additional Soccer League Information
Objective of the Womens Athletic Club Soccer League
WAC Soccer is a recreational soccer league that provides a friendly environment for women of all skill levels,
ages 25 and over to play soccer. The overall idea is to have some fun, get some exercise, improve your soccer
skills and hang out with the girls. Each game has a professional referee who can also provide real-time coaching
during the games.
Fees
Fees are apx $6 per game and help to cover field permits, insurance, referee fees and other miscellaneous
items such as pinnies (vests), goal nets, line chalk, goalie gloves, etc. Active, dues-paying WAC members
receive a discount.
Registration/Waiver Form
Registration forms and fees are due 2 weeks prior to the start of each session. Each player is required to
sign a waiver form prior to playing the first game. Send application and check payable to
SRWAC to: SRWAC Soccer, 9974 Scripps Ranch Blvd. #135,
San Diego, CA 92131. Text of Waiver follows:
Release of Liability
The player named herein acknowledges that participating in the sport of recreational soccer as in any
sport may result in injury. The undersigned therefore, releases Scripps Ranch Womens Athletic Club (WAC),
its members, teams agents, officers, coaches, referees and players from liability for any claim, damage or
legal action on behalf of the player, their parents, heirs, personal representatives, arising from any injury the
player may sustain while participating in soccer or related activities, including transportation. The undersigned
also certifies their willingness to play recreational soccer under the rules set forth for the Scripps
Ranch Recreational Soccer League.
League Structure (Groups vs teams)
There are no set teams. Rather, you will be assigned to a Group prior to the start of each season.
This is for scheduling purposes only. There are approximately 11-15 ladies
assigned to each group to accommodate absences on any given game day.
You will be randomly assigned to a team at the beginning of each game. This will give you the opportunity
to play with different teams each week, so you can try your skills at different positions. Each week is a whole
new game! A WAC member will act as team lead, and will help with position assignments, and general
coaching as needed. During any given game, should the skill levels of the teams be determined to be
uneven, the referee or a WAC member may ask you to switch groups to even up the teams.
Your cooperation is appreciated.
Schedule/Assigned game times
Schedules are sent out apx 1 week before the session starts via email attachment. If you dont have email,
please make other arrangements ahead of time. Please play at your assigned time. If due to conflicts, you
occasionally need to switch times, please send email to the registrar at the email address below. If you
have special carpool needs, please let the registrar know via email at least two weeks prior to the start of
the season. The registrar will try to accommodate your request wherever possible. On game day, priority
will be given to those assigned to that time slot.
Sign-in Sheet
Please sign in when you arrive.
Required Gear
All players are required to wear white t-shirts/sweatshirts, shin guards and outdoor soccer shoes.
Pinnies/vests will be provided to differentiate the teams.
Absences
As a courtesy to your teammates, please send email to the registrar ahead of time if you cant make
a game. It helps in determining if well be playing short and/or allows the registrar to accommodate
peoples schedule conflicts for that week.
Field Setup and Teardown
All players are requested to help with field setup and teardown. The goals are heavy, and the nets take
some work to setup. More volunteers for set-up and tear-down makes it easier for everyone.
Please arrive early or stay late to help.
Clinics
A skills clinic may be held the first 45 minutes on the first day of each session.
Other skills clinics may be arranged periodically depending on interest level.
Warming Up
Please arrive early to warm up and stretch. Injuries such as pulled muscles can be avoided if you
warm up ahead of time. Arrive 15 minutes early, take an easy jog around the field and
STRETCH those muscles ahead of time!
Playing different positions
The WAC Soccer league is intended to be fun and recreational. It is strongly recommended that
each player try different positions during each game, INCLUDING GOALIE! While the goalie position
may be intimidating, its really a lot of fun! And many of us will be happy to coach you along the way.
If you dont try different positions, a WAC member will ask you to do so. Try it, you might like it!
Not enough players
Sometimes due to absences, we dont have enough players for 11 person teams. If were
short players, well make the field smaller (pull in the goals), and play on a shorter field.
Substitutions/ Number of Players on the Field
Generally, we play 11 person teams. 3 forward, 3 midfield, 3 defenders, 1 sweeper, 1 goalie. However,
if everyone shows up, we will have substitutes. If we have substitutes, EVERYONE needs to sub out at least
1 time per game. No exceptions!! The referee will call for substitutions every 10 minutes. If you dont substitute,
a WAC member will ask you to do so. If youve ever watched any level of soccer from the little kids through
professionals, substitutions are a natural part of the game. Please be courteous on this one!
Field Closures
Field closures due to rain will cancel games. Due to the City of San Diegos field assignment process,
SRWAC cannot reschedule missed games.
